Acoustic music is the root of the blues. Field hollers and moans, spirituals and gospel music, even occasionally English, Scottish and Irish music form the core of the blues. Acoustic Blues Club brings you music examining the ‘roots of the blues’. The earliest blues recording are now more than 100 years old and much of the music in this show was recorded in the last century. Understanding where the music comes from and the way it fits in to the social fabric of the United States of America is key to considering the contemporary nature of the music. Although you will hear some amplified instruments there is very little electricity involved in delivering the music. The definition of acoustic is broad: certainly guitars and occasional banjos but also pianos, harmonicas and jazz bands, jugs and washboards and even the occasional flute. Check it out!
