Blues From The Severn Delta

Dr Wart Hoover grew up listening to music in the 70's. After making a promising start at University Radio Falmer, work and family pressed a "pause" on radio for 30 years. Having joined Severn FM, The Doc discovered that most of the music he loved was built on The Blues, so launched a programme celebrating the vast broadness of the genre. This has become "Blues From The Severn Delta" (the River Severn flows past The Doc's home town to the sea)

Acoustic Blues Club

Acoustic music is the root of the blues. Field hollers and moans, spirituals and gospel music, even occasionally English, Scottish and Irish music form the core of the blues. Acoustic Blues Club brings you music examining the ‘roots of the blues’. The earliest blues recording are now more than 100 years old and much of the music in this show was recorded in the last century. Understanding where the music comes from and the way it fits in to the social fabric of the United States of America is key to considering the contemporary nature of the music. Although you will hear some amplified instruments there is very little electricity involved in delivering the music. The definition of acoustic is broad: certainly guitars and occasional banjos but also pianos, harmonicas and jazz bands, jugs and washboards and even the occasional flute. Check it out! Acoustic blues is "the way the blues began".

Turn It Up

I guess from a very early age I was bitten by the music bug. Music is my oxygen I really couldn’t live my life without it. Back when I saw The Beatles performing All You Need Is Love on Top Of The Pops that was it !. My life took many turns since then born on a farm I spent almost 40 years of my life as a dairy farmer. Then in the late nineties worked in the agri- business sector. Although during all of that period music was ever present in my life. Then it happened!! June 2019 I did my first radio interview!! At the time I was a committee member of The Harvest Blues Festival in Monaghan. That year we had a German blues rock artist Jimmy Cornett performing so it made sense to reach out to a German music station to speak about the festival. Minutes after the interview the station radio home of rock contacted me and said they would like me to work with them and offered me a weekly music show. It was a dream come true so naturally I jumped at the opportunity. So in August 2019 Turn It Up was born .I’ve enjoyed every single moment of working on this show. I also work as an interviewer/reviewer with Making A Scene Magazine an independent online publication, which has a worldwide audience of 8 million monthly page reads. Also I’m currently musical director/ Chairperson of The Harvest Blues Festival a position I’m truly honored to have. My aim has always been to highlight and promote through airplay and show interviews the many extremely talented emerging artists. They are our future so I see a presenter like myself as a prospector for golden nuggets of talent, and when discovered to share it with you the listeners.
